Sally Ann Hellwig, age 81, of Canal Winchester, Ohio, died January 8, 2023. She was born March 12, 1941, and grew up in Fremont, Ohio. She spent most of her life living in the Columbus, Ohio area. Sally had a fiercely independent spirit, always desiring to go places and do things on her own. She proudly told of a trip she took on her own to New York City and recounted a trip to visit family in Texas. More recently, Sally and her friend Ryan had taken day trips to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio (Sally loved the Browns and the Buckeyes), to Toledo to visit family graves and Fremont to drive past her childhood home (which was just down the street from the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Museum). Everyone knew Sally by first name…at the doctor’s office, the apartment complex, the rehab center, and church…her smile, characteristic lipstick and makeup, and quick-wit attracted people to herself. Sally loved to laugh with people who spent time with her. Sally is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved brother Tom. Those who were blessed to share life with her include special friends Ryan, Steph, Cally, and Kendyl James; and Bill, Kim, Eric, and Rebecca Johnson; many friends at Reynoldsburg Church of Christ, and several family members in Texas.
