Robert Glenn Criswell, aged 92, of Newark, Ohio, passed away on July 5, 2024. Born in Carter County, Kentucky, on June 23, 1932, he was a man of great character who spent his life in service of others, a calling he embraced fully upon retiring from his career with the Norfolk & Western Railroad.
A steadfast supporter of his community, Robert's contributions were manifold. He found joy in coaching local baseball teams and played a crucial role in founding a girls' softball league. His benevolence was evident through his work with a food pantry, a soup kitchen, and a bus ministry, as well as his volunteer efforts with the Red Cross during national disasters, offering aid after the Twin Towers attack and during Super Storm Sandy.
Robert leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his children, Craig (Sheri) Criswell, David (Dorothy) Criswell, and Debbie (Joe) Gallant. His memory will be treasured by his eight grandchildren: Jillian (Ryan), Brittany (Adam), Shannon (Chris), Carly, Alyssa, Kyle, Sandra, and Andrew, and his fourteen great-grandchildren: Cameron, Casey, Corey, Morgan, Reagan, Mason, Anderson, Emmy, Lennon, Miles, Samantha, Harmony, Alora, and Ethan. He will also be fondly remembered by his numerous "favorite" nieces and nephews, as well as members of his church community. His endearing wit and resilience earned him the affection of many, including his caregivers in his final months.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Alice Criswell (nee McCallister), his parents, Ovelton and Hattie (nee Eiford) Criswell, his brothers Clifton, Ovelton Daniel (Pete), Tom, Charles, and his sisters Ovanelle, Mary Roselle, Gladys, and his grandsons Christopher Bailey and Taylor Gallant.
A service to honor and commemorate Robert's life will be held on July 18 at 11 a.m. at Discovery Church, 750 Cross Pointe Rd., Gahanna, OH 43230. Interment will be at Union Grove Cemetery in Canal Winchester. Robert's unwavering dedication to his family and community will remain an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
