Rick K. Henry
June 11, 1951 — January 15, 2023
Rick K. Henry passed away January 15, 2023, at the age of 71. Rick was born June 11, 1951, in Columbus, Ohio to the late Mary Ann and Louis Henry.
Rick grew up in Linden before moving to Gahanna in middle school. At Gahanna Lincoln High School, Rick participated and starred in football and wrestling, where he was the first District Champion in Gahanna history. After graduating from Gahanna in 1969, Rick attended Capital University where he met the love of his life, Christine Miller, and they started their fifty-year journey together. Together they moved out to Maryland when Rick took a job with 84 Lumber and then moved back to Columbus two short years later when they found out they were expecting their first child, Joshua. Rick didn’t like to waste any time in his younger years and one year later they found out they were expecting their second child, Jacob. As Rick got older, he started taking his time, so twenty years after child #2 came child #3, Jordan.
Rick always worked in leadership positions throughout his life, as a Regional District Manager at McDonalds, General Manager at G.D. Ritzy’s and Bobby Sox before opening the Inkwell of Gahanna in 1984.
Rick was very active in the Gahanna community and with his children. Rick founded the Gahanna Youth Wrestling Program back in 1986 with Ed Schillig and was instrumental in starting the Gahanna Middle School Football program in the mid 90’s. He coached thousands of young men and women in wrestling, football, and baseball. He was inducted into the Gahanna Lincoln Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017 as an athlete and coach. Rick dedicated his life to developing young men and women to be the best they could be on the field and in life.
Rick is proceeded in death by brothers, Dick, Randy, and Mark. He is survived by his wife, Christine Henry; his children, Joshua Henry (Amanda), Jacob Henry (Layla Edwards), and Jordan Henry; brother, Scott Henry (Karen); as well as many grandchildren and other cherished family and friends.
Friends may call on Thursday, January 19, 2023, from 6:00pm-7:30pm at Peace Lutheran Church, 455 Clark State Road, Gahanna, Ohio 43230. Service to be held on Friday, January 20, 2023 at 11am-12pm with calling one hour prior. Burial to be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 5600 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43213.
Following the graveside service the family will hold a celebration of life for Rick to swap stories and laughs from 2:00pm-5:00pm at the Moose Family Center, 335 W Johnstown Road, Gahanna, Ohio 43230.
