(Amy) Loretta Leaver peacefully passed April 7, 2024. Born in Greene County, Pennsylvania, September 2, 1931, to Ralph and Helen McCann. Loretta, better known as Mom, raised three stepchildren; Barry A Leaver, William C. Leaver, and David K. Leaver, as well as her own son; Ralph Kent Leaver (known as Kent) in a small Christian home where she faithfully demonstrated the love of Christ day after day. She was frugal out of necessity most of her life but later was frugal by choice or perhaps by habit. Frugal meaning she could stretch a dollar so far, the other end of it could not be seen. She loved road trips her entire life and fell in love with Arizona while on a road trip out West with her husband, Barry. After her husband of more than three decades passed away, she, her son Kent, and his family struck out from Whitehall, Ohio, headed West and initially settled in Boulder, Colorado. Kent built her a house in the mountains above Boulder and she lived there until the cold and snow drove her to Casa Grande, Arizona. Her son, Kent and his family also moved to Arizona and Kent built her another house in Arizona City, Arizona. In Colorado and Arizona, she worked multiple positions in discount stores and developed a knack for catching thieves and occasionally literally chasing them down. In Arizona she loved the beautiful mornings, and the heat year-round. A close companion for Mom during her lifetime was her cousin Dorothy Cole. Although a cousin, Dorothy was more like a sister to Mom. They would speak frequently, cherishing stories of what was going on in each other’s lives. Her granddaughter, Tammy Mundy, was another person that was very close to Mom. With very few exceptions Tammy would call daily and they too shared their lives with one another. Mom’s travels took her pretty much full circle and she passed away quietly at her step-son’s home in Sunbury, Ohio.
Memory Lane Sunbury is honored to care for the Leaver family during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer you make a donation to your local Veteran's Organization.
