Keira L. Boynton, beloved daughter, sister, Godmom, educator and friend entered into the arms of Jesus on July 4, 2023. Keira was a light in the lives of everyone who crossed her path.
Keira Lynn Boynton entered the world on August 24, 1977 in Cleveland, Ohio to Kathleen Ann Boynton. She graduated from the Warrensville Heights school system. Keira furthered her education by achieving a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Hiram College and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Ohio Dominican University.
Keira taught with both the Cleveland City Schools and Columbus City Schools District for 24 years. Keira’s enthusiastic and energetic teaching style enabled all students who entered her classroom to reach his/her full potential and realize a lifelong love of learning. The schools Keira has taught at for Columbus City Schools include Ohio Avenue Elementary School, Linden Stem PreK-6 and, most recently, Oakmont Elementary School, where for the past 6 years, she served as the Senior Faculty Representative for the Columbus Education Association. Keira achieved many accolades during her career. She was awarded the “Emerald Green Award” from SWACO for initiating the “Earth Patrol Club” at Ohio Avenue Elementary School and a recycling program that could be utilized throughout the district. She was also awarded an Educator of the Year award through the Linden Community and through the PTA of Oakmont Elementary School in conjunction with CEA.
Keira was a fierce advocate for all animals and the Earth. She was the proudest cat mom to her beloved fur babies Flopsy and Mopsy.
Keira was an avid basketball fan with her favorite team being the Cleveland Cavaliers, where she was a member of the Wine and Gold Club, along with being crowned the “Mayor of Loudsville” at home games.
Keira was a dedicated and loving daughter and sister. She was a big part of the lives of all of her Godchildren and her honorary nieces and nephews. Keira never missed a recital, a game, an award ceremony, a play, a performance, prom, homecoming, graduation, birthday celebration, family reunion or anything for the people that she loved. Keira loved her family and friends with every fiber of her being. For her Godchildren, nieces and nephews, she gave constant encouragement. She taught them to believe in themselves and to never give up, even when things may have seemed bleak. She would offer her words of wisdom and allow them to make their own choices. Keira was totally selfless! She would give 110% of herself to the people she loved.
Keira was preceded in death by her loving and supportive grandmother (Gram), Nancy Rose Braund. Left to cherish Keira’s memory are; her mother, Kathleen A. Boynton and sisters Tianna and Donteisha Boynton; cherished friends who turned into family; Sheila, Kia, Karen, Sherri, Norman, Tim and David Watkins; Jocelyn, Kristin, Erin, Carolyn and Olin Collins; Rochella Hoover; Godchildren Trevon and Tanazia Hoover, Kennedy and Caleb Watkins, and Ari Briggs; nieces and nephews; Fatima, MaKenzie, Milah, Marlee, Nasir, Shaneka, Amber, Collin, Cameron, Zion, Stephanie, Solomon ,KJ ,and Lily along with host of other honorary nieces and nephews; all of her childhood friends from Cleveland; close colleagues and all of the students that she taught along the way.
The funeral service will be held at Higher Ground Always Abounding Assemblies located at 870 St. Clair Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43201, on July 15, 2023. Visitation will occur from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. The funeral service will immediately follow, beginning at 1:00 pm. With Keira's love for nature, it is only fitting that her ashes return to the earth in a green burial where they will become a beautiful Blue Spruce tree. The burial and committal service will be held at Union Grove Cemetery, located at 400 Winchester Rd, Canal Winchester, Ohio 43110, on July 22, 2023 beginning at 11:00 am.
