Dwayne Allan Wampler, 64, of Sunbury, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. He was born on April 14, 1960, to Gene and the late Doris (Barcus) Wampler. Dwayne was the beloved husband of Cheryl (Phillips) Wampler; devoted father to Adam (Jen) Wampler, with grandchildren Autumn and Lane; and Kevin “Booie” (Elyse) Wampler, with grandchild Brody. He is also survived by his brother Dale (Kara) and was predeceased by his brother Darrell.
A lifelong resident of Sunbury, Dwayne graduated from Big Walnut High School in 1978. He and Cheryl were married on December 6, 1980, and shared over four decades of love and partnership.
Dwayne's life was marked by his dedication to serving others. As a young man, he played a crucial role in bringing food to Sunbury during the blizzard of '78. His commitment to his community continued as he served as a police officer, Cub Scout den leader. Dwayne was very proud of his bachelor's degree in biblical studies so he could become an ordained minister, which he put to good use in nursing homes and as the esteemed Chaplain for the Porter-Kingston Fire District.

The Hartford fair was the time of the year Dwayne looked forward to the most. He loved 4-H, and in August he loved showing the animals that he had put much work into the rest of the year. He passed his love of animals and 4-H down to his sons, now his grandchildren. Dwayne could always be seen in the stands at fair watching the grandchildren show their animals and cheering them on. There wasn’t a show he would miss. The Hartford fair, his love of animals, 4-H, are all memories that Dwayne’s sons, and grandchildren will be able to hold close to their heart forever.

Dwayne loved life and his family deeply. He especially treasured the moments spent with his grandchildren.

Dwayne leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever cherish his memory. His legacy of service, love, and devotion to his family and community will be remembered and celebrated by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, August 18, 2024 from 3-6p.m. With a short service at 6p.m officiated by Pastor Larry Dewitt at the Ramsey 4-H Center on The Hartford Fairgrounds, 14028 Fairgrounds Rd, Croton, Ohio 43013.
