Carol Ray Reed
January 30, 1937 — March 7, 2023
The family and friends of Carol Ray Reed, 86, sadly report her sudden passing on March 7, 2023 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Born in Batavia, New York to the late Arvel and Agnes (Mulner) Ray, on January 30, 1937. She is also preceded in death by her loving husband, Homer Larry Reed, in 2018, and grandson, Bryan Henlen, in 2018.
Carol is survived by children, Colleen Mahmet, Mark McCabe, and Laura McCabe (Joseph) Rhoades, her main caregiver; stepchildren, Kelly Reed (James) Beeson and Larry (Paula) Reed. Carol was known as “Grammy” to her seven grandchildren, Brett, Barb, Bryan, Niki, Lyon, Ilima, and Sara; and three great grandchildren, Anthony, Jasmine, and Liam, who all loved her dearly. She is also survived by brother, Martin C. Ray; closest cousins, Jeanne (Ben) Meleca and Lynn Tilton; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joyce and Jim Frazer.
Carol grew up in western New York State; attended schools in Batavia, Attica, and graduated in 1954 from Corfu High School. Upon graduation she attended Erie County Technical Institute in Buffalo, New York. She earned a degree as a dental hygienist in 1956, and moved to Carthage, New York for her first job. She later worked for dentists in Milton, Florida at the Navy Air Base at Whiting Field. After moving to Columbus, she was a hygienist for many years for Dr. Harvey Vesha in German Village before she retired.
Carol loved books, from the time she learned to read as a child. She also loved gardening, painting, sewing, and needlepoint. She was a firm believer in her Christian faith. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Oak Grove Cemetery in Delaware, Ohio, followed by a private Celebration of her Life for family and friends.
