Diana S. Miller-Gilbey died quietly in her sleep on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, after a short illness and a long life of passion for her family, friends, community, and the environment. She was 77 years old, born on May 18, 1947, in Maysville, Kentucky. After moving to Radnor, Ohio, as an elementary school girl, she married her school sweetheart and raised her six children on the Rocking M Farm on Coover Road. After raising her family, she retired to her little one-acre homestead in Prospect, raising sheep, chickens, and a bountiful garden. Diana was a farmer’s wife, PTA mom, a room mother, a 4-H advisor, and a supporter of anything and everything her kids, grandkids, and friends did. If they loved something, she loved it just as much. She was a talented crafter, leaving many quilts, baskets, wreathes, and homemade foods in the homes of everyone she loved. She was also a lover of the environment, a caretaker of the earth, a steward of its resources, and an advocate for the healing power of nature.
Diana is survived by her husband Jerry Gilbey; six children Greg (Mindy) Miller, Jason (Tamma) Miller, Jeremy (Teresa) Miller, Kyle (Nelson Morales) Miller, Erin (Jason) Case, and Jacob (Stephanie Ray) Miller; step-children Roxanne (Michael) Perrier and Jeremy (Escarlet) Gilbey; grandchildren Zach (Anne) Miller, Jacob Lowe-Miller, Morgan Miller, Jesse Miller, Oliver Case, Elliana Ray-Miller, Fiona Ray-Miller, Ethan Olson, Mikayla Perrier, Levi Gilbey, Luke Gilbey, Scott Cooper, Casey Cooper, Nicolas Morales, and Fabricio Morales; great-grandchildren Josie and Calvin Miller and Brantley and Scottlyn Cooper; sister Debbie Nelson; foster daughter Jolynn Decker; and many close friends including Bonnie Newland, Sheila Martin, Carol Lutz, Steve May, Spoon Agave, Sally Dubanowich, Janet Burkley, and others. She was preceded in death by her parents Alex and Ruby Prather, her granddaughter Sarah Miller, and the father of her children, Irvin Miller.
Her passion was family. Whether born into, adopted, or married into the family, she welcomed each with open arms and the strongest love, support, and wisdom. Her family extended beyond those with the family name. Her home was a welcome and safe place for friends, travelers, and anyone who needed someone to listen. This led to her dedicated and regular volunteer service with Leapin’ Outreach Center, in Marion, Ohio, where she spent time serving those in need of food, clothing, shelter, and love. Memorial contributions in her name can be made to Leapin’ Outreach Center at 150 Court St., Marion, Ohio 43302.
The family invites all who knew and loved Diana to attend a celebration of her life to be held on Sunday, October 6, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Cocinamos Bakery and Bistro, 3 W. Winter Street, Delaware, Ohio. She was such an important part of building the restaurant, it is fitting that we celebrate her life there. True to the way she lived her life, Diana’s body will be laid to rest in a private green burial, naturally returning her to the earth that sustained her and all of us. Burial arrangements are being made by Memory Lane Sunbury by Day Funeral Service.
